Star Party

Star Party

Friday, Nov. 17 | 5–10pm

Location: Cumming Nature Center

Skip town and light pollution to join us on this nearly moonless night at the RMSC Cumming Nature Center. This family-friendly, after-hours event will focus on the basics of astronomy and orient novice star gazers to telescopes, star charts, galaxies and more! On Nov. 17, the night sky will be free of a bright moon and planets, which will clear the way for a stupendous view of the Milky Way, the Summer Triangle, globular and open star clusters, nebulae, and even double stars! Generally, few people see the Milky Way because of excessive light pollution around population centers. Guests are encouraged to bring binoculars and red lights (that feature your flashlight might have that you were wondering about).

This event is cloud or clear (like rain or shine)! In the event of overcast skies, viewers will be able to stream the night sky in the Cumming Natuer Center Riedman Theater. Crafts and pizza will still be available.

Activities Include:

  • Brownie constellations
  • Hear stories about constellations
  • Find constellations in the sky
  • Use a telescope to look at star clusters, nebulae and double stars
  • Pizza available for purchase

RMSC Members: FREE
General Public: $3/person or $10/family
