Donate Your Eclipse Glasses

Donate Your Eclipse Glasses

Do you have eclipse glasses from solar eclipse 2017 around the house collecting dust? Put them to good use by helping students view the next eclipse visible from areas of South America and Asia in 2019!

The Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) is a registered eclipse glasses collection center for Astronomers Without Borders and Explore Scientific. You can donate your glasses at the RMSC Museum, Strasenburgh Planetarium or the RMSC Cumming Nature Center.

The RMSC will collect glasses now through September 30, 2017. At that time, we will send the glasses to be properly processed, stored and distributed to schools in the path of the 2019 eclipse.

We distributed approximately 11,500 eclipse glasses before solar eclipse 2017—how many can we get donated back?

Can I save my glasses until Eclipse 2024 in Rochester?

Eclipse glasses compliant with the ISO 12312-2 safety standard may be reused indefinitely if filters aren’t scratched, punctured or torn (Read more about glasses safety from NASA).

If you were thinking about keeping your glasses until 2024, consider donating them instead. It is a wonderful way to support global science education and eliminate the worry of keeping track of your glasses for the next seven years.
