School Visits to the Planetarium

School Visits to the Planetarium

The RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium can stimulate curiosity, foster a sense of wonder, encourage a positive attitude toward learning, and provide unique visual experiences on the dome that complement your work at school or at home.

To arrange a visit for your school group, call RMSC Group Scheduling at 585-697-1942 at least three weeks in advance. If possible, please arrange for your visit to take place before April recess. Seating is limited during the crowded times from late April through June.

Accessibility

For people who use wheelchairs
The Planetarium is wheelchair-accessible. You can roll from the lobby to a comfortable location in the Star Theater without encountering any steps.
When you call to make your reservation, please let the scheduler know if anyone in your group uses a wheelchair, or if there are other special needs. We will be glad to help.

For people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
All school showings of the large-format film The Living Sea are presented with open captioning on the screen.

Star shows are not captioned. However, lighting can be arranged for your sign-language interpreter. Please call 585.697.1942 before your trip to arrange for lighting. Before your visit, your interpreter may find it helpful to review the information for your program from the links below.

The Star Theater is equipped with an induction-loop hearing assistance system, which is in operation for all programs. To receive the signal, set hearing aid switches to "T."

When You Arrive

Check-In

Before your visit, please read the information you receive with your confirmation carefully.

On the day of your visit, please arrive in the Planetarium lobby 15 minutes early with your reservation confirmation and your exact total head count including students, teachers, chaperones and bus drivers. To ease the check-in process, please ask one person from your group to check in at the box office with your head count and payment. Payment may be made with cash, check, credit card, or purchase order.

To keep the experience enjoyable for everyone, latecomers will not be admitted once a show has started. Restrooms are located past the exhibit hall, next to the Challenger Learning Center, and are wheelchair accessible.
