To arrange a visit for your school group, please call RMSC Group Scheduling at (585)697-1942.
To
help ensure that your visit to the Planetarium building is a pleasant,
worthwhile experience, we hope you will take a moment to read the
information below. You will receive further information about visiting
RMSC with your reservation confirmation..

About the Planetarium
The
Strasenburgh Planetarium Star Theater has approximately 200 seats. If
you are attending a regular weekday morning school presentation, your
group will probably share the theater with other groups seeing the same
program. Seating is under the direction of your program presenter. The
staff will be glad to assist anyone with special needs (see information
below about service for people who use wheelchairs).
Arriving at the Planetarium
Please bring your reservation confirmation. Please read carefully the information you receive with your confirmation.
Please arrive in the Planetarium lobby 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in and restrooms.
Please arrive knowing your exact total head count, including students, teachers, chaperones, and bus drivers.
To
speed check-in for everyone, please ask one person from your group to
check in at the box office with your head count and payment. Payment
may be made with cash, check, credit card, or purchase order.
To keep the experience enjoyable for everyone, once a show has started, latecomers will not be admitted.
Restrooms
are located past the exhibit hall, next to the Challenger Learning
Center, and are wheelchair accessible. Each restroom at the Planetarium
has three "stations."
Please keep your coats with you as you enter the Star Theater.
CourtesyPlease use indoor voices, walk calmly, and behave respectfully toward other students, teachers, and the Planetarium staff.
Please
turn off cell phones and pagers when entering the Star Theater. Except
for emergencies, please do not text-message on cell phones during a
program, because the light from the phone is distracting when the
theater is dark.
Food, drink, gum, and candy are not permitted in the Planetarium.
Teachers and chaperones are responsible for the behavior of students throughout your visit.
In the Star Theater, teachers and chaperones should sit among the students.
Please
use quiet voices near the restrooms, because they are located near the
Challenger Learning Center, where students and teachers are working. For people who use wheelchairsThe
Planetarium is wheelchair-accessible. You can roll from the lobby to a
comfortable location in the Star Theater without encountering any steps.
When
you call to make your reservation, please let the scheduler know if
anyone in your group uses a wheelchair, or if there are other special
needs. We will be glad to help.
For people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
All school showings of the large-format films Mysteries of the Great Lakes and Dolphins are presented with open captioning on the screen.
Star
shows are not captioned. However, lighting can be arranged for your
sign-language interpreter. Please call (585)697-1942 before your trip
to arrange for lighting. Before your visit, your interpreter may find
it helpful to review an outline or script of the program you are going
to see. Click on Programs and then select the title of your program.
The
Star Theater is equipped with an induction-loop hearing assistance
system, which is in operation for all programs. To receive the signal,
set hearing aid switches to "T." A loop receiver is also available for
loan at the Planetarium box office.
