To Remember • To Educate • To Honor

Where were you on September 11, 2001?
Ten years after the tragic events of September 11, 2001,
community members have a powerful need to reflect on how that day changed us.
Explore the September 11, 2001: A Global Moment exhibition and realize the personal
and historical significance of the tragic events of that horrific day. A 10-year
remembrance, this exhibition presents you with a platform to experience September 11, 2001, honor victims, survivors,
responders and their families.
First in the nation (previously
in Oradour-sur-Glane,
France) to host September 11, 2001: A Global Moment, the RMSC does so with respect and compassion. September
11, 2001: A Global Moment is part of the New
York Remembers exhibition series
that opens across the state.
The events of September 11, 2001 are explained through images, recovered artifacts,
videos, a full timeline and personal stories. Within the exhibit, you'll find items that help explain the story, such as:

- American flag
from one
of the WTC towers
- Building fragments
- Signs
- Flight attendant uniform
- New York Police Department (NYPD)
shield
- Firefighters helmet
- Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey police jeep
- Portion of August Rodin's "The Three
Shades" sculpture
- Nino's Restaurant's Statue
of Liberty (was placed on a nearby sidewalk to inspire the rescue effort)
- Various newspapers, such as the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, covering key events
At our remembrance fence, visitors are invited to
leave
behind items such as flowers, letters, and/or other tokens of sympathy or appreciation, if they so choose. A truly global moment, claiming the lives of people from more
than 80 countries, reaches us locally. Families in Rochester, NY lost
loved ones.
Experience September 11, 2001: A Global Moment in the spirit that moves you, and remember to honor the never-forgotten victims, brave survivors and courageous heroes
of September 11, 2001.

History
In the span of a little more than two hours,
2,973 people were killed in New York City,
Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania in the deadliest terrorist
attack the modern world has ever seen. Most died at New York's World Trade
Center (WTC) when its twin towers collapsed after being struck by two hijacked
planes. The devastation and horror of the attacks left much of the world
reeling in shock.
