A special program for the Rochester City School District (RCSD) has enabled 2,600 city school students to sign up to visit the RMSC for free. To qualify, the math teachers of these students took a professional development workshop on how to make the most of their visit to Math Midway. The RCSD administrators as well as RIT professors were instrumental in making the workshop possible. The trained math teachers are preparing a classroom lesson connecting to one of the exhibit components to extend and deepen their students’ learning. OppenheimerFunds, a significant sponsor of the National Museum of Mathematics in New York City, and RMSC provided scholarships for full admission assistance while the RCSD is covering busing for these students. Teachers in the city who did not take the workshop, as well as teachers from any school district within traveling distance, are able to apply for partial scholarships for their students.
