2013 Full-Day Summer Camps for 6-8 Year-Olds
(children entering grades 1-3)
Camps run Monday–Friday, 9am–4pm include programs and activities in the Planetarium and Museum (for camps meeting at the Museum) or the Cumming Nature Center trails (for camps at the Nature Center).
Please bring a bag lunch, as lunch is not provided by the RMSC.
- The RMSC offers bussing for Nature Center camps for an additional cost of $25. Pre-registration is required. Check in for campers riding the bus is at the RMSC beginning at 8:15am.
- Check in for all camps, except Nature Center camps, are at the Eisenhart Auditorium lobby at 9am.
- Check in for Nature Center camps is at the Welcome Center in the Cumming Nature Center lobby at 9am or at the RMSC at 8:15am if you are taking advantage of bussing.
Extended Care, a time of supervised but unstructured play, is staffed by our Youth Program staff and provided at the RMSC or Cumming Nature Center from 8–9am and/or 4–5:30pm. Registration required.
Cost = $20 per child, per week (morning or afternoon session)

Refund/Cancellation Policy:
- Full payment is required at registration (which includes $50 non-refundable processing fee for full-day camps and a $20 non-refundable processing fee for mini-camps and almost camps).
- $100 deposit is retained in the case of withdrawal from full-day camps after June 1st and up to two weeks before camp.
- NO REFUNDS given during the 10 business days before a camp.

All Things Science
Engineering, chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology—discover the world of science in this science sampler camp. Perform experiments, learn about different branches of science, meet local scientists and find out what they do every day. See a star show at the Strasenburgh Planetarium, too.

NXT Robotics
Get an introduction to the LEGO NXT robotics kits in this fun-filled week of basic robot construction and programming. Compete in robot challenges and gain valuable team building skills all while investigating NXT robotics.

Gross Science
This camp is all-around gross science fun. Make icky and sticky substances. Hunt for bugs, worms and other critters. Learn about some of the gross things that animals and humans do, and make some edible things that will be sure to get reactions.

Discovering Animals
Investigate the lives of animals: how they eat, where they live, how they behave, and how they defend themselves. Explore the ice age animals that once roamed Western New York. Learn while you play games, do projects and experiments all about animals in action.

Biology Basics
Learn about biology and biodiversity. Explore how cells work together to allow life to function. Extract DNA and perform DNA testing. Do simulated blood testing, and learn about what leads to biodiversity. Enjoy a visit from the Wegmans ZooMobile.

Art Exploration
Are you a modern artist or an impressionist? A photographer, painter or do you like drawing? Learn about these art forms as you dive into the world of art. Create and use homemade and natural art supplies.

Exploring Paleontology
Discover the world of paleontology and geology. Explore the RMSC fossil collections. Learn about some of the most amazing finds in the paleontology, gem and mineral world. Discover where you can find fossils in New York, and make your own fossils to take home.

Join us for a week of space discovery. Learn about planets, moons, our solar system and galaxy, and galaxies beyond our own. Experiment with jet propulsion and rockets. Use everyday objects to create space-themed works of art. Enjoy visits to the Strasenburgh Planetarium.

Amusement Park Science
Rides, games and so much more— explore the world of amusement parks and carnivals. Discover the physics behind the rides. Create your own carnival games and make some amusement park food. Take a field trip to Seabreeze Amusement Park.

Doctor Camp
Get a head start on becoming a doctor. Spend the week getting to know all about humans. Learn about the digestive, respiratory, circulatory and nervous systems. Monitor your heart rate, test your reflexes, learn what to do in an emergency, and meet scientists and doctors in the field of medicine.

Geology 101
Explore one of the world’s richest geological areas—our own backyard! This week is filled with dirt, rocks, crystals, fossils and mastodons. From sea to swamp, ice to lakes, investigate Upstate New York’s geological history as we uncover the story of our region. Take a field trip to Penn Dixy fossil site..

Put your forensic skills to the test and solve a genuine RMSC mystery. Learn about crime solving techniques with experts from the city crime lab. Explore crime scene science and what it takes to track down criminals.
