Celebrate Columbus Day with Robotics
at the Rochester Museum & Science Center
*Photo/video opportunity: FIRST Robotics teams; LEGO robots moving over terrains; Moving robot arms
WHAT: Visitors explore the amazing world of robotics at the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) in celebration of Columbus Day. Visitors can:
Meet high school students from FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics teams across the Finger Lakes region (on October 13 and 14)
Control LEGO robots as they move across different terrains.
Discover how local doctors are using robots to perform delicate surgeries.
Learn about the da Vinci robotics system.
Take various technologies apart and see what is inside and how it works.
Get hands-on at a robotics station with NXT robots and experiment with changing aspects of the robot so that it can do different things, like using an IR sensor to detect it's surroundings and automatically change direction.
Build robotic arms out of wood and connect hydraulic and/or pneumatic actuators at a hands-on station to learn how to give the arms motion and make them work.
Explore robotics in the Alien Worlds and Androids exhibition in the RMSC Riedman Gallery.
WHO: RMSC available for interviews each day; Penfield FIRST Robotics Team 1511 available October 13, Penfield FIRST Robotics Team 1511 and Spencerport FIRST Robotics Team 3015 available October 14.
