Visitors Explore Robotics at the Rochester Museum & Science Center
ROCHESTER, NY—Rochester Robotics, a new family program at the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC), provides visitors with hands-on experiences in engineering and computer science—the fields involved with creating robots. Rochester Robotics takes place from 12pm to 4pm Saturday–Monday, October 12–14.
Visitors have an opportunity to explore the vast world of robotics and their practical uses in our lives. In addition, visitors can meet high school students from FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics teams across the Finger Lakes region, and learn about getting involved at almost any age. Among the experiences at Rochester Robotics, visitors can control LEGO robots as they move across various different terrains, meet Sunnking, Inc.'s recycling robot, and build robotic arms using hydraulics and pneumatics. Also, participants will learn about how local doctors are using robots to perform delicate surgeries to save lives. On Sunday and Monday, October 13 and 14, the Penfield and Spencerport Rangers FIRST Robotics teams will perform demonstrations of their team robots and discuss the challenges that teams take on in order to compete in area and nationwide competitions.
Visitors also have the opportunity to explore robotics in Alien Worlds and Androids, the traveling exhibition at the RMSC through December 22. Here, visitors can maneuver a mechanical arm, learn about androids, and discover the robotics used in space exploration.
Admission to the Rochester Robotics program, as well as Alien Worlds and Androids, is free with regular Museum admission: $13 adults, $12 seniors and college students with ID, $11 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members. For group reservations and rates, call 585.697.1942. Programs take place in the Museum unless otherwise specified. Check www.rmsc.org for updates.
