Star Show at RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium Explores The Wonderful World of Black Holes
ROCHESTER, NY—Visitors to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) Strasenburgh Planetarium embark on a journey into the mysteries of a place in the universe where gravity is so strong that nothing can escape—not even light. The Wonderful World Of Black Holes opens to the public on Monday, July 1.
"Black holes are favorite topic for questions from kids," said Steve Fentress, director, Strasenburgh Planetarium, RMSC. "They love to think about all the weird things that happen in and around black holes, and they are slightly concerned about whether black holes pose a threat to us. They don't, but they provide a lot of cool stuff to think about."
The Wonderful World Of Black Holes introduces audience members to ten things they may not have heard about black holes. This fast-paced show is backed up by real science and immersive, high-resolution visualizations. A black hole is a place where gravity trumps all other natural forces, forming an edge in space and time and creating a world of bizarre effects.
As with all star shows at the Planetarium, an expert live presenter commands the giant Zeiss projector in the Star Theater's dome and takes visitors on a tour of the night sky, pointing out the visible constellations of the season.
The Wonderful World Of Black Holes and is recommended for ages 6 years to adult. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, college students, and ages 3–18, and free for RMSC members. Beginning July 1, the show is scheduled for 1pm on Saturdays and continues throughout the week at either 11am or 1pm. In addition, a 1pm show takes place on the first Sunday of each month. The complete show schedule is at www.rmsc.org.
