The Big Question—Aliens: Friend or Foe?—A Program at the Rochester Museum &
Science Center
ROCHESTER,
NY—Visitors to the Rochester Museum & Science Center
(RMSC) explore the possibility of life on other planets during a NASA-related program called,
"Aliens: Friend or Foe?" The event takes place from 12–4pm on Saturday,
March 2 and Sunday, March 3.
In addition to
exploring the possible existence of life beyond Earth, participants analyze how
we might respond to an alien encounter, and how they might react as well.
Participants can take part in hands-on activities including:
·
Playing "Alien Jeopardy."
·
Viewing video interviews with community
leaders on how they would respond to extraterrestrial contact.
·
Making a postcard of themselves on another
world where life might be possible.
·
Creating a craft on the theme of
extraterrestrial life.
This program is presented by resented
by World of Inquiry School 58 in Rochester.
"Aliens: Friend or Foe?" is part of the RMSC's NASA Science
and Technology on the Family Calendar program. With support from NASA, RMSC
educators are partnering with students from the Rochester Institute of
Technology's Insight Lab, leading teams of parents and middle-school-aged kids
through evening meetings every three to four weeks. Families were recruited
through selected partner schools in Rochester and the surrounding area.
Families discuss event topics, experiment with materials and technologies, and
plan presentations for maximum family appeal. Result: fresh, innovative programs.
This project is supported by NASA grant award number NNX10AD87G.
