different theme and spectacular explosions each day
ROCHESTER, NY—Lights, camera,
ACTION! Visitors to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC)
enter the worlds of their favorite movies during February break week's program
called "Movie Magic!" Different-themed, hands-on events, from Star Wars to Twilight, take place each day from 12pm until 4pm on Saturday,
February 16 through Sunday, February 24. In addition, visitors see pyrotechnic demonstrations (a.k.a.
spectacular explosions!) daily at 1pm and learn about the science that goes
into them.
From behind the scenes to hands-on cinema
fun, "Movie Magic" features immersive experiences, live
animals and all the joy that blockbuster movies bring us. The full schedule is
detailed below:
ROBOTICS
Saturday, February 16 - Sunday, February 17
Explore the world of robotics through movies such as Transformers and Wall-e. Build
a robot arm, learn about their inner workings, run LEGO Mindstorm robots, and see demonstrations by
local FIRST Robotics Teams.
HARRY POTTER
Monday, February 18
Journey into the world of wizards and magic as the RMSC becomes Hogwarts
for a day. Take classes including Spells, Potions and Defense Against the
Dark Arts. Join in our Harry Potter look-alike contest!
CARTOONS
Tuesday, February 19
Explore the colorful world of your favorite animated films from Looney Tunes to Rise of the Guardians. Learn how to make your own animated films.
Come dressed as your favorite cartoon character.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Wednesday, February 20
Ahoy mateys! Pull anchor as we set sail for the Caribbean and celebrate all
things pirates. Learn about infamous pirates of the past and how to navigate
the seas. Make your own pirate disguise or a buccaneer's best friend - Polly
want a cracker?
TWILIGHT
Thursday, February 21
Are you team Edward or team Jacob? Maybe a Bella fan? Explore the world of
vampires and werewolves and learn the science behind them. Make fake blood.
Learn about the phases of the moon. Meet a real, live wolf!
SUPERHEROES
Friday, February 22
Grab your cape and tights and join us for a fun day of superhero science. Meet
Spiderman! Explore the science of superheroes and their gadgets, from The Dark Knight to Russian Super Agents.
Make your own superhero cape.
STAR WARS
Saturday, February 23 - Sunday, February 24
On Saturday, meet your favorite characters from the Star Wars universe when the 501st Stormtrooper Legion invades the RMSC
and explore fun activities. Then make a return trip on Sunday and continue your
journey to far-away lands in front of a green screen, create your own
stop-motion animated films that you can keep, and lots more. Don't forget to
come dressed as your favorite Star Wars character!
Note: The 501st Stormtrooper Legion will be available Saturday ONLY.
Programs
are free with regular Museum admission: $13 adults, $12 seniors and college
students with ID, $11 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members.
For group reservations and rates, call (585)697-1942. Programs
take place in the Museum unless otherwise specified. There is no need to
