Explore the three geologic
periods of the Mesozoic Era with programs specifically designed for younger
children to complement A T. rex Names Sue.

Period! Learn about the deserts that dinosaurs called home 220 million

Period's open woodlands and discover what it was like to be a Stegosaurus.

Period and come face to face with the queen of the "lizard kings", Sue!
Immerse yourself in each
period and learn what it was like to live like a dinosaur. See fossils from the
RMSC collections.
SCIENCE

Experience
hands on experiments and lively demonstrations from local scientists. Science
Saturday programs are specially designed for you and your family to experience
all the fun and excitement of science together. Science Saturday Programs are
free with regular Museum admission; group rates are available. For group

unless otherwise noted.

CHALLENGER CENTER Family Missions

Embark on a virtual voyage to
Mars—a high-tech, hands-on simulation. Located in the Strasenburgh Planetarium
and coordinated by "Mission Commanders" from Monroe #1 BOCES, this unique
experience is educational and fun. Children must be at least 7 years old.
Children ages 7 to 10 must be teamed one-to-one with an adult.
Mission fees: RMSC members:

EXHIBIT:
A T. rex Named Sue
October 6, 2012–January 6,
2013
Sue is the largest, most complete and best-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex ever unearthed. This
exhibit combines thrilling science with engaging activities. Explore the way
she lived, died and interacted with her environment. Touch fossils from the
RMSC's collection with RMSC educators, too! Check www.rmsc.org for details. This exhibit was created by The Field
Museum, Chicago, USA, and made possible through the generosity of McDonald's
Corporation.

your connections to the natural world in this spectacular, interactive natural
science exhibition. See how our region's landscape and life forms have changed
over hundreds of millions of years.

Rochester is optics! Have hands-on fun with light,
color, and optics with mirrors, lenses, and lasers.
How Things Work
Discover the science behind everyday devices. Through
fun, hands-on investigation, find out how mechanisms such as light switches,
thermostats, and traffic signals work.
K'NEX
Be an engineer!
Build trucks, towers—anything you can imagine—with this colorful construction
toy.
Raceways
Discover the
principles of moving objects. Experiment with momentum, friction, gravity, and
acceleration as you send wooden balls looping and racing over ramps.
Flight to Freedom:
Rochester's Underground Railroad -- Presented with support from
the City of Rochester and the Underground Railroad Heritage Trail, a program of
the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation
Explore stories of courageous African Americans who
traveled through Rochester on their way from slavery to freedom. Find out about
local people who helped them.

and Haudenosaunee's creative response to new technologies and materials
