Women's Council's 42nd
Annual Holiday Bazaar Arts & Crafts Sale is Largest Yet at Rochester Museum
& Science Center
ROCHESTER,
NY—The Women's
Council, a volunteer service organization that
supports the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC), presents its 42nd annual
Holiday Bazaar Arts & Crafts Sale. The largest
ever in its history, this year's event features more than 200 elite, fine artists and craftspeople filling the Museum galleries and Eisenhart Auditorium at the
RMSC on:
Friday, November 16: 5-9pm
Saturday, November 17: 9:30am-5pm
Sunday, November 18: 11am-4pm
Vendors
are juried and only the best are chosen to appear in the show, and must display
items that they produced themselves. As a result, a spectacular variety of carefully selected
exhibitors showcase creative, unique items such as
ceramics, jewelry, glass, woodwork, photography, painting, printmaking,
sculpture, fiber arts and mixed media in this sale. Vendors come from the local
area as well as nationwide.
"Many artists recognize the Holiday Bazaar as
one of the most elite and professional shows in Western New York, so they apply
to exhibit every year, and the list of applicants grows, too," said Christine
DeTurck, Women's Council member and co-president for the Holiday Bazaar
committee. "Visitors enjoy purchasing holiday gifts that are truly hand-made,
as well as the opportunity to interact with and learn from the talented vendors."
Food and beverages are available in the
Cunningham House studio, an area not usually open to the general public. The
Regency style dwelling, which is home to the RMSC's administrative offices, was
originally constructed in 1880 and purchased by the Cunningham's in 1916. A
wing was added to the house to serve as Mrs. Cunningham's studio—as she was a
professional artist and patron of the arts. It is fitting that the studio doors
be open to visitors during the three-day art event at the Museum. Other
highlights include a used book sale and door prizes.
One of the longest running arts and crafts festivals in the
Rochester region, the RMSC Women's Council Holiday Bazaar began 42 years ago as
a modest "Christmas Stocking Stuffer Sale." The Bazaar attracted more than
6,000 shoppers last year, and is the Women's Council's most successful
fundraising event.
Admission is $5 per person; $7 for
a two-day pass per person; and Children 12 and under are free. RMSC members
receive half price on Friday night.
NOTE: Museum exhibits, including A T. rex Named Sue, will be unavailable
during the run of the Holiday
Bazaar Arts & Crafts Sale, as galleries will be
filled with arts and crafts exhibitors.
The
Women's Council is a volunteer service organization that supports the RMSC with
special events and fundraising activities. Founded in
1941, the council is dedicated to providing members with opportunities for
educational growth and social interaction.
