DINO DAYS
Saturday and
Sunday, November 3 and 4.
Explore the three geologic
periods of the Mesozoic Era with programs specifically designed for younger
children to complement A T. rex Names Sue.

Visit the Triassic
Period! Learn about the deserts that dinosaurs called home 220 million
years ago.

Travel to the Jurassic
Period's open woodlands and discover what it was like to be a Stegosaurus.

Journey to the Cretaceous
Period and come face to face with the queen of the "lizard kings", Sue!
Immerse yourself in each
period and learn what it was like to live like a dinosaur. See fossils from the
RMSC collections.
SPACE ODYSSEY: Colonization of Space
Saturday, November 3–Sunday, November 4: 12-4pm
Stop in for a new event created for families by families! Explore how we'll
survive and what we'll do on other worlds. Try an interactive game, or take a
digital photo of yourself in an off-world environment. Younger kids can make
and take "space crafts." Space Odyssey is part of NASA Science and
Technology on the Family Calendar, a continuing collaboration with NASA and
RIT.
Age range: For all ages, especially ages
10 to 14.
The project is based upon work supported by NASA under grant award NNX10AD87G.
HAUDENOSAUNEE DAY
Saturday, November 10: 12–4pm
Celebrate Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) culture, past and present, with artisans
from the community. Learn about jewelry making, beading, and basket making from
local Haudenosaunee artists. Hear storytellers, and join RMSC Docent educators for
tours of the Museum's world-renowned collection. View artifacts rarely on
display for the public, including art from the Works Progress Administration
(WPA) Indian Arts Project. Learn first-hand about the tradition of making
corn-husk dolls with hands-on art activities.
This program is funded by the New York
State Council of the Arts (NYSCA).
SCIENCE
SATURDAYS—sponsored by Time Warner Cable
Experience
hands on experiments and lively demonstrations from local scientists. Science
Saturday programs are specially designed for you and your family to experience
all the fun and excitement of science together. Science Saturday Programs are
free with regular Museum admission; group rates are available. For group
reservations and rates, call (585)697-1942. Programs take place in the museum
unless otherwise noted.

2000 Simulator ride
Friday,

Fly one of the 15 barnstormer planes past the control tower,
through a volcano, and race a speeding train to town.
CHALLENGER CENTER Family Missions
Monday, November 12: 10:30am–12:30pm
Embark on a virtual voyage to
Mars—a high-tech, hands-on simulation. Located in the Strasenburgh Planetarium
and coordinated by "Mission Commanders" from Monroe #1 BOCES, this unique
experience is educational and fun. Children must be at least 7 years old.
Children ages 7 to 10 must be teamed one-to-one with an adult.
Mission fees: RMSC members:
adults $14, children $11; General public: adults $16, children $13.

VETERAN'S DAY BLOOD DRIVE

42nd ANNUAL HOLIDAY BAZAAR ARTS &
CRAFTS SALE– Sponsored by RMSC Women's Council

Featuring nearly 200 elite,
fine artists and craftspeople, this year's event is the largest in its history
and includes a spectacular variety of creative, unique items such as ceramics, jewelry, glass, woodwork,
photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, fiber arts and floral crafts.
Admission: $5 per person; $7 per person
for two-day pass; Free for children 12 and under. Members half
price on Friday night!

A T. rex Named Sue

Sue is the largest, most complete and best-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex ever unearthed. This
exhibit combines thrilling science with engaging activities. Explore the way
she lived, died and interacted with her environment. Touch fossils from the

Construct wooden masterpieces of all shapes and

exhibit experience. Precision cut, identical construction blocks, KEVA Planks stack with surprising

your connections to the natural world in this spectacular, interactive natural
science exhibition. See how our region's landscape and life forms have changed

Rochester is optics! Have hands-on fun with light,
color, and optics with mirrors, lenses, and lasers.
How Things Work
Discover the science behind everyday devices. Through
fun, hands-on investigation, find out how mechanisms such as light switches,
thermostats, and traffic signals work.
K'NEX
Be an engineer!
Build trucks, towers—anything you can imagine—with this colorful construction
toy.
Raceways
Discover the
principles of moving objects. Experiment with momentum, friction, gravity, and
acceleration as you send wooden balls looping and racing over ramps.
Flight to Freedom:
Rochester's Underground Railroad -- Presented with support from
the City of Rochester and the Underground Railroad Heritage Trail, a program of
the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation
Explore stories of courageous African Americans who
traveled through Rochester on their way from slavery to freedom. Find out about
local people who helped them.
