Experience the World
of the Dinosaurs During Dino
Days at the Rochester Museum &
Science Center
ROCHESTER,
NY—Visitors to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) explore
dinosaurs and the environments they inhabited during Dino
Days throughout the fall. Attendees journey back through the ages to
the Mesozoic Era and get hands-on with dinosaur activities
Saturdays, October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, December 1, 8, 15, 29 and
Columbus Day, Monday, October 8.
"Not
all dinosaurs lived at the same time," said Calvin Uzelmeier, Ph. D and
director of education, RMSC. "Visitors have the opportunity to have fun
exploring three very different geological time periods, learn about how
dinosaurs lived and what their characteristics meant for survival. This program
is a great complement the A T. Rex
Named Sue exhibit. The
program also appears during national Earth Science Week October 14
though 20—and this is our way to celebrate it."
During Dino Days, visitors immerse themselves
in each unique period and learn what it was like to live like a dinosaur with
activities specifically designed for younger children. They can:
• Visit the Triassic Period. Learn about
the deserts that dinosaurs called home 220 million years ago.
• Travel to the
Jurassic Period's open woodlands and discover what it was like to be a Stegosaurus.
• Journey to the
Cretaceous Period and come face to face with the queen of the "lizard kings,"
Sue!
Attendees also
have the opportunity to make dinosaur claws and fossil rubbings to take home.
Dino Days is free with
regular Museum admission: $13 adults, $12 seniors and college students with ID,
$11 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members. For
group reservations and rates, call (585)697-1942. Programs take place in the
Museum unless otherwise specified. Check www.rmsc.org
for updates.
A
T. Rex Named Sue will be
at the RMSC from October 6, 2012 through January 6, 2013. Sue is the
largest, most complete and best-preserved Tyrannosaurus
rex ever unearthed. This exhibit combines thrilling science with engaging
activities. Visitors explore the way she lived, died, interacted with her
environment, and will have the opportunity to see and touch fossils from the
RMSC collection with educators. Check www.rmsc.org for details. This exhibit was created by The Field Museum,
Chicago, USA, and made possible through the generosity of McDonald's
Corporation. Locally presented by M&T Bank. Additional support comes from Harris Beach PLLC,
Monroe County, MVP Health Care and Rochester Area McDonald's. The media sponsor is Time Warner
Cable.
Rochester
Museum & Science Center (RMSC) receives major funding from Monroe County.
RMSC includes a planetarium, nature center and science/regional history museum.
