New Curiosity on Mars Star Show at Rochester Museum & Science Center Strasenburgh
Planetarium Explores Wonders of the "Red Planet"
ROCHESTER, NY—Curiosity on Mars, the new
family-friendly star show at the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC)
Strasenburgh Planetarium, explores the "red planet" via NASA's new Mars
Science Laboratory rover, also know as "Curiosity." Starting October 6, audiences will see the best, current
pictures, learn about the latest discoveries, and review greatest hits from
previous Mars missions in the
Planetarium's four-story dome.
The star show takes audiences on
an incredible journey to discover whether Mars has, or ever had, environments
suitable for life. Curiosity, which landed on Mars the early morning of August
6, is as big as an SUV, can drive over 20-inch obstacles, shoot HD video, and
carry a laser that can vaporize tiny rock samples 23 feet away for chemical
analysis. Visitors will experience Mars like never before, and learn to find
Mars in the real sky.
"You may remember those young engineers cheering at Mission Control when
Curiosity landed after executing an amazing seven-minute sequence of operations
to slow down from 13,000 miles per hour to a gentle touchdown," said Steve
Fentress, director, Strasenburgh Planetarium, RMSC. "Now, we're going to start
watching what this amazing machine can do and discover."
Curiosity on Mars appears Saturdays at 1pm starting October 6.
Visit www.rmsc.org for full, and most
up-to-date, show schedule.
