Center Board of Trustees Chair and Members Bring Expertise to Institution
ROCHESTER,
NY—The Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) is happy to announce that
Andrew Meloni has accepted a second term as Board of Trustees chair (2012-2013)
and welcomes four additional board members for a three-year term (class of
2012-2015). Meloni brings extensive leadership experience to the institution,
and will be chair during its centennial year. The four additional members,
Anthony J. Adams Jr., Scott Knaub, Sophia Maggelakis and Deborah Wilson, are
experienced leaders that will help the RMSC take on a new strategic focus.
Andrew
Meloni, Executive Vice President, Brown & Brown of NY, INC. Meloni has held regional positions and
executive leadership roles in Brown & Brown's Rochester, NY office. Meloni,
part of Brown & Brown's executive leadership team, handles the firm's
largest and most sophisticated accounts, and he is one of the top sales
producers in the company. Brown & Brown merged with the Riedman Corporation
in 2001—the corporation Meloni joined in 1976—and is the 6th largest
broker in the United States. Meloni is past president of the Boy Scouts of
America, Seneca Waterways Council.
He has also served as vice chairman of Compeer, and was a board member
for the School of the Holy Childhood and of The Monroe County Special Olympics.
As the chair of the RMSC Board of Trustees, Meloni brings extensive leadership
and business development experience to the institution. Meloni resides in
Pittsford, NY.
Anthony
J. Adams, Jr., Attorney, Gates & Adams, P.C. Adams has been in private practice since completing a
clerkship for New York State Supreme Court Justice David O. Boehm in 1983.
Trained and experienced in civil litigation, he dedicates much of his practice
to representing contractors, construction managers, designers and other
construction industry participants in contract negotiation, claims, labor relations,
risk management and other general business matters. Since 2007, he has been
selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for Construction
Law. Mr. Adams is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State
Bar Association, and the Monroe County Bar Association. Adams serves on the
Board of Directors of the Catholic Family Center of Rochester, NY and is a
former chair of the Monroe County Catholic Schools Board. His extensive business, legal and
leadership expertise will help the RMSC advance. Adams resides in Greece, NY.
Scott
Knaub, Area VP Operations, Western New York, Time Warner Cable. Knaub has extensive experience in
business operations and currently covers
a wide territory for Time Warner Cable. The Midwest native was named area vice
president of operations several months ago. His area of service spans from
Western New York to east of Rochester, into Cayuga County and covers about
700,000 subscribers and more than 1,600 Time Warner Cable employees.
Previously, Knaub worked for Cox Communications for more than a decade in
Atlanta and Rhode Island. Knaub's business management and operations experience will be helpful
to the RMSC. Knaub resides
in Victor, NY.
Sophia
Maggelakis, Dean College of Science, Rochester Institute of Technology. Appointed to her current position in May
2010, Maggelakis has expertise particularly in the area of mathematical
biology. Maggelakis was elected to be a part of the
faculty for the 21st Century network of Project Kaleidoscope
(PKAL)—one of the leading advocates in the United States for what works in
building and sustaining strong undergraduate programs in the science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines. Maggelakis is a recipient of the Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching and Who's Who Among America's Teachers. In her 20-year tenure at RIT,
Maggelakis founded and led the School of Mathematical
Sciences (SMS), a graduate program in Applied and Computational Mathematics,
and two research centers. Maggelakis is a mentor for
the Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics Group of Rochester, and she
is the founder of the Women in Science (WISe) program in the College of
Science. She holds a doctorate degree in
Computational and Applied Mathematics from Old Dominion University. Maggelakis serves on the Science and Technology Committee of the
Rochester Museum & Science Center. Maggelakis' extensive background in science,
technology and education make her a valuable contributor to the RMSC.
Maggelakis resides in Rochester, NY.
Deborah
Wilson, Chair of Elaine P. & Richard U. Wilson Foundation. Wilson was an active trustee from 2002-2011. During the last year, she has been
an active member of the Strategic Planning Committee. As chair of the Elaine P.
& Richard U. Wilson Foundation, Wilson has more than 25 years' experience
working with not-for-profits, and is a board member on many local
not-for-profits including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Geva Theatre,
George Eastman House, Al Sigl Center Foundation Board of Governors and the
Seneca Park Zoo Society. Wilson is a member of the Women of the RPO Board and
Honorary Board Committee. She has a unique perspective of the complexities of
the financial needs of not-for-profits in today's market. Wilson holds a strong
belief that it is essential to the health of any community to support the
cultural and social activities of these organizations that play such a vital
role to the quality of life. Wilson resides in Bloomfield, NY.
