Nature During Expert Guided Hikes at the Rochester Museum & Science Center
Cumming Nature Center This Summer
ROCHESTER,
NY—Visitors to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC)
Cumming Nature Center (CNC) have the opportunity to walk with experts and learn details about the
natural environment of Upstate New York this
summer. The CNC features a variety of special summer walks inspiring visitors
of all ages to get outside and exercise while uncovering the wonders of the
outdoors. Walks include:
SENIOR
SOJOURN (Easy Pace)
Wednesdays, June 20, July 18 and August 15:
11am–12pm
Experience summer at Cumming Nature Center with Shariee
Edersheim. "Mrs. E" takes visitors on an informative and easy,
hour-long walk to marvel at the spectacular sights and sounds of summer.
Visitors may bring a lunch if they so desire, and then walk another trail.
Program fee: Free for
RMSC members. A donation of $3 per person or $10 per family is requested for the
general public.
SERENDIPITY WALK (Moderate Pace)
Saturdays, June 16, July 21 and August 18: 11am–2pm
Visitors enjoy a guided walk with Shariee Edersheim as she
takes them to areas of Cumming Nature Center typically not accessible to the
public. Attendees experience different types of terrain, including wet areas,
so they're encouraged to wear the proper footwear. Bringing a lunch to enjoy
with great company is an option.
Program fee: Free
for RMSC members; $3 per person or $10 per family is requested for the general
public.
WILDRENESS WALK
(Vigorous Pace)
Saturdays, July 14 and August 25: 10am–2pm
Visitors are encouraged to bring their sense of adventure
with them and enjoy a hike off the beaten path with CNC staff. Experience the
outdoors while exploring areas of the property not typically accessible to the
public, and discover fascinating tales of the region's history. A light lunch
awaits attendees at a rustic cabin.
Program fee: $10
per person, including members. Reservations are required by calling
(585)374-6160.
Shariee
Edersheim (Mrs. "E") serves as a senior naturalist at the
RMSC Cumming Nature Center. Edersheim was the lead interpreter at CNC in
the 1980s and early 1990s. Edersheim leads several walks including senior
sojourn, serendipity walk, among others.
CNC trails are open from 9am–3:30pm, Wednesday–Friday and
9am–4:30pm, Saturday and Sunday. Trails are open from 9am–4:30pm on
Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4. For
