Madagascar's Vanishing Ecosystems at Rochester Museum & Science Center
ROCHESTER, NY—"Extinct
Giants, Shrinking Dwarfs: A Paleontologist's Perspective on Madagascar's
Vanishing Ecosystems" is the title of the next Richard C. Shultz Science on the Edge lecture at Rochester Museum
& Science Center (RMSC). The presenter, Kathleen Muldoon, serves as
Assistant Professor of Anatomy at Dartmouth College. The program begins at
7:30pm on Wednesday, March 21 in the RMSC Eisenhart Auditorium.
Madagascar is a hotspot for endangered biodiversity, and has
suffered the extinction of dozens of species, including the giant sub fossil
lemurs. Attendees will discover what the fossil record can tell us about human impact and
environmental change in the past, present, and future prospects for
conservation.
A biological anthropologist, Muldoon specializes in primate evolution
and ecology. She uses the fossil record as a framework for addressing questions
of community change over time. Muldoon received her doctorate degree in 2006
from Washington University in St. Louis.
