ROCHESTER,
NY—Visitors learn how to design bridges, identify minerals and build model
rockets, among other intriguing science and technology-related activities, at
the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) this February. These
activities are part of the RMSC "Science Saturdays" program—where entire
families and community members of all ages can experience the excitement of
science through hands-on interaction and tips from the experts. Details on
upcoming February programs include:
Industrial Uses for Minerals
Saturday, February 4: 12–4pm
Rochester Academy of Science: Mineral Section
Visitors learn how to identify
minerals and explore their industrial uses.
The Science of Building
Saturday, February 11: 11am–4pm
American Society of Civil Engineers
Visitors meet civil engineers, try their
hand at designing a bridge, and mix their own batch of concrete.
National Engineers Week Super Science
Saturday, February 18: 10am–4pm
Eastman Kodak Company
Local engineers from Kodak and
other innovative companies will be available to help with hands-on
demonstrations of real-life engineering applications.
Journey to Mars!
Saturday, February 25: 10 am– 4pm
Monroe Astronautical Rocket Society
An out-of-this-world program,
"Journey to Mars!" explores the science and hobby of building and flying model
rockets.
Location: Strasenburgh Planetarium
"Science
Saturdays" programs allow community members to dig their hands into science,
meet local experts and discover science phenomenon's in a relaxed, conversational
setting. "Science Saturdays" take place on selected Saturdays throughout the
year and are sponsored by Time Warner Cable. "Science Saturdays" cover a wide
range of science and technology fields and are designed for family members to
experience together.
Programs are, unless otherwise specified,
free with regular Museum admission: $12 adults, $11 seniors and college
students with ID, $10 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members.
Museum admission with Extreme Mammals:
The Biggest, Smallest, and Most Amazing Mammals of All Time is $15 for
adults, $14 for seniors/college students with ID, $13 for ages 3–18, $3 for RMSC
members, and free for children under 3. For group
