Rochester Museum &
Science Center Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day by Exploring Rochester
Innovation
ROCHESTER,
NY—Rochester, New York has been, and continues to be, the home of
several forward thinking individuals, businesses and institutions. In
honor of this and in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, community members
can participate in the "Rochester: Innovation Station" hands-on program at the
Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC). The event takes place from 12pm
until 4pm Saturday, January 14 through Monday, January 16.
This
year's celebration features immersive experiences as community members have the
opportunity to explore interactive examples of the area's proud past and
exciting future of medicine, technology and social reform. Visitors can:

Explore
prototypes designed by students at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
Center for Student Innovation.
·
Discover
the important role played by African-Americans in Rochester's rich history of
invention and innovation.
·
Get an
up-close look at past inventions, hear the stories behind local inventions, and discover those created by
African-American innovators in special "Artifact Spotlights" at
2pm and 3:30pm each day.
·
Discover the innovative climate change board game "Scorched Earth: Not Just a Bunch of Hot Air" being
developed by Three of Hearts, a
group comprised of local teens. Visitors
learn about their game, and find out how they can help the group build its
first prototype!
·
Use their imagination in solving fun problems with
robotics, common household goods, and explore other exciting activities.
Programs
are free, unless otherwise specified, with regular Museum admission: $12
adults, $11 seniors and college students with ID, $10 ages 3 to 18, free for
children under 3 and RMSC members. Museum admission with Extreme Mammals: The Biggest, Smallest, and Most Amazing Mammals of All
Time is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors/college students with ID, $13 for
ages 3–18, $3 for RMSC members, and free for children under 3. For group reservations and rates, call (585)697-1942. Programs take
